HURTING HEARTS

Testimony from our JOURNEY class: ”I am so thrilled about the class and already see breakthroughs in our family, even though I am just learning. Today I heard both our girls, ages 4 & 5, crying and being upset at the same time. After hearing that one said ‘Eww’ to a song the other was singing, she ruined the floor puzzle they had been building. I explained that they both hurt each other’s hearts, and they told each other how they felt. Then I had them apologize and ask for forgiveness. One apologized, but the other refused. Not sure what to do, I asked her to draw a picture of how she felt. 2 minutes later, she returned with a picture of an upside-down heart and a regular heart. She said her heart felt upside down when she didn’t say sorry and that it felt right when she did. So, she went right away and apologized. All was well once again! I was pretty amazed that is how she felt when not apologizing! Anyways, thank you, Lisa, for sharing your experiences and journey and what you’ve learned with Holy Spirit. I can’t wait for more breakthroughs with Him.”

HEALING HUGS

My friend shared: “Our oldest was having a hard time tonight. Overtired, over being quarantined, whatever the reason, he was really struggling. My husband swooped in and gave him a hug that lasted probably 5 minutes. And all was well in the world again. As parents, knowing when a timeout or other discipline is needed is a skill. Or when it’s time for a long, wordless, healing hug, I’m thankful to witness my husband parent our kids this way – and I’m grateful that the Father of heaven also parents us with such kindness.”

THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE

Imagine being in a deep sleep and being woken by a 7.1 earthquake. You would be startled, alarmed, and uncertain. I taught a class one week and asked how many people are feeling things shake in their world that has left them perplexed, confused, and alarmed. Every single hand went up. Hallelujah! God is shaking all that can be shaken. It would be silly in an earthquake to try and stop the shaking. You become instantly alert, grab on to what you know to be solid, and cry out to Him. The same strategy works for a spiritual shaking. I encouraged them, instead of begging God to make it stop, to go palms up and ask God to shake it all as deep as it needed to go so that the only thing that remained were the things of Him. Let Him shake those structures, relationships, mindsets, traditions, and even your labor and ministry to the utter core. AND THEN watch Him create and build something out of what is remaining. That is the safest place to be.

PARENTING TOOLS

Parents, you are not powerless to help your child! You might need some additional tools, but you are not powerless. Nothing is wrong with you that your child is screaming out for help. Let’s get you some more tools so that you can go after these issues in childhood.

OVERFLOW

When a mom has an encounter like this in class, her household is bound to shift. Guess who gets the overflow? Her children!

“So much of this lesson was just geared right for my heart today. My eyes filled with tears as I laughed out loud over and over at the story of calling down joy from heaven over yourselves. Yes! How backward I get this sometimes. Running faster does not get me there more quickly; I only wear myself out. Jesus, take the wheel today. I will go where You take me. I will listen to You. I will walk the path You have set for me. Your ways are greater than mine.”

FREEDOM FIGHTER

My favorite day of the week was going to the rescue mission and mentoring the moms. I drove away with tears streaming down my face out of pure compassion and love for them. When you see someone – really see THEM – not their choices, messes, or failures – you can’t help but love them. They visibly look different every week I show up. They are becoming Daughters and fighting hard with the tools of heaven for their families. I got permission to take them to see the movie Harriet Tubman with me one week. We all have a FREEDOM FIGHTER inside of us, and these moms are giving it everything they got. There is a calling on their lives to help others find the freedom they are experiencing. I am so proud of each of them.

MY LOVE OFFERING

I have often shared that Let the Children Fly is simply my love offering back to my mom to give other parents the tools that she needed but didn’t have in raising me. When adult children and their parents (grandparents) take the class together to bring greater healing to their adult relationship, it always touches this profoundly deep place in me. I have dropped a multitude of tears of utter gratitude for the way Jesus is aligning families through this ministry. Mom, I am sorry that we never discovered the goodness of heaven’s tools and strategy for our relationship before you left this earth decades ago. But I am so grateful for the way Jesus has used your legacy to impact scores of parents around the world. There is room for your family to join! 

MENTAL ADJUSTMENT

I am being stretched in the area of patience, and for someone who is normally wired for fast-paced, productive movement, it hit me hard. I could feel myself sinking by the hour; it isn’t healthy to be in that place very long. I got the kids through dinner and took off by myself. I just stood soaking in the view and breathing in the air. I realized my MIND needed an adjustment similar to my back needing a chiropractor. I was aware I was out of alignment but could not pop it back in myself. I needed the GREAT PHYSICIAN to help align me. I confessed my attitude and weariness and cried out for help. I was tired, sad, and frustrated and needed the strength to endure more but from a place of rising above, not sinking lower. I needed Psalms 40:1-3 to be my reality: “I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.” 

Sometimes God aligns us through revelation, correction, or inner healing, yet sometimes He does it in a way that is so gentle and light we can’t even pinpoint how or when He changed us. Like a Father who gently guides a child’s chin to look into His eyes, all becomes well again. God does not want us to endure hard things; He wants us to find HIM in the midst of it.
